Setting Driver Parameters

The Driver Parameters tab and Host Driver Parameters tab enable you to modify driver parameters for a specific HBA or all HBAs contained in a host.

For example, if you select a host in the discovery-tree, you can globally change the parameters for all HBAs in that host. If you select an HBA in the discovery-tree, you can change parameters for only that HBA.

For each parameter, the Driver Parameters tab and Host Driver Parameters tab displays the current value, the range of acceptable values, the default value, and whether the parameter is dynamic (a dynamic parameter allows the change to take effect without restarting the HBA or rebooting the system). You can choose whether or not to make parameter changes persistent after a reboot of the system. You can also restore parameters to their default settings.

This topic contains instructions for:

  • Setting driver parameters on an adapter.

  • Setting driver parameters on a host.

Setting Driver Parameters for an Adapter

Note The Linux 2.6 kernel only supports setting the log_verbose, nodev_tmo and use_adisk driver parameters for individual HBAs. You must apply other driver parameters to all HBAs contained in the host.

See the "Setting Driver Parameters on a Host" topic on this page for more information.

To change the driver parameters for an adapter:

  1. Start HBAnyware.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • From the menu bar, click View, then click Sort by Host Name.

    • From the toolbar, click the button.

  3. In the discovery-tree, select the adapter whose parameters you wish to change.

  4. Select the Driver Parameters tab. The parameter values for the selected adapter are displayed.

Note The illustration above is an example. The driver parameters you see may be different, depending on the installed driver.
  1. In the Driver Parameters tab, click the parameter that you want to change. A description of the parameter appears on the right side of the dialog box.

  2. Enter a new value in the Value field. You must enter values in decimal or hexadecimal format, depending on how the current value is presented. If the value is in hexadecimal format, it is prefaced by "0x" (for example 0x2d).

  3. If you want the change to be temporary (causing the parameter to revert to its last permanent setting when the system is rebooted), check the "Make change temporary" box. This option is available only for dynamic parameters.

  4. If you are making changes to multiple parameters, and you want all the changes to be temporary, check the "Make all changes temporary" box. This setting overrides the setting of the "Make change temporary" box. Only dynamic parameters can be made temporary.

  5. Click Apply.

Restoring All Parameters to Their Earlier Values

If you changed parameters, but did not click Apply and you want to restore the parameters to their last saved values, click Restore.

Resetting All Default Values

If you want to reset all parameter values to their default (factory) values, click Defaults.

Setting Driver Parameters for a Host

To change the driver parameters for HBAs installed in a host:

  1. Start HBAnyware.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • From the menu bar, click View, then click Sort by Host Name.

    • From the toolbar, click the button.

  3. In the discovery-tree, select the host whose HBA driver parameters you wish to change.

  4. Click the Host Driver Parameters tab. If there are HBAs with different driver types installed, the Installed Driver Types menu displays a list of all driver types and driver versions that are installed on the adapters in the host. Select the driver whose parameters you wish to change. This menu does not appear if all the HBAs are using the same driver.

Note The illustration above is an example. The driver parameters you see may be different, depending on the installed driver or operating system.

  1. In the Host Driver Parameters tab, click the parameter that you want to change.

Resetting All Default Values for a Host

To reset all host driver parameters back to their default (out-of-box) values:

  1. Start HBAnyware.

  2. In the discovery-tree, select the host.

  3. Click the Host Driver Parameters tab.

  4. Click Use Defaults. Parameters to be reset are displayed in red text. The Use Defaults button is inactive and the following window is displayed:

  5. Click OK on the Host Driver Parameters tab. Parameters to be reset are still displayed in red text. The value fields display the default values in red text as well.

  6. On the Host Driver Parameters tab, click Apply.

Note If you want to set all host driver parameters back to their value before you clicked Defaults, click Restore. Restore will only work if you have not yet clicked Apply.
